The following terms and conditions apply across all Award categories. Each Award category includes specific questions and guidelines, which are outlined within the nomination form. By participating in the 2026 WA Volunteer of the Year Awards you agree to the following terms and conditions:
Nominations
1. Past Winners
Past winners must wait five years before being nominated again in that category – winners from 2020 onwards cannot be nominated for the 2026 Awards. This means past Award winners from 2020 – 2025 cannot be renominated in the category they won.
2. Due Date
a) All nomination forms and supporting documents are due by 5pm Friday 20 February 2026.
b) Volunteering WA has the authority to extend the nomination deadline where appropriate.
3. Self-nomination
a) Self-nomination is not permitted in any Award category for individuals
b) Self-nomination is permitted for Organisation Awards, however both references must come from outside of the organisation.
4. Nominee Location
a) Nominees must be residents of, or operate in, Western Australia.
b) Information provided in the nomination must only reference Western Australian operations.
5. Multiple Nominations
a) You can nominate the same individual/organisation for multiple categories, or
b) Multiple individuals/organisations for the same category, but each nomination requires a separate form.
6. Relevant Information
a) Nominations will not be accepted without contact details for the nominator, nominee, and referees.
b) Nominations which are deemed by the awards organisers and/or judging panel to have insufficient information or evidence may not be considered.
c) Please keep your nomination examples to the past 12-month period of 1 January – 31 December 2025 (except for the Lifetime Volunteer Category which covers 20+ years).
7. Juveniles
For nominees under 18 years, permission must be sought from a parent or guardian before submitting a nomination.
8. Posthumous Nominations
Posthumous nominations are not permitted for the WA Volunteer of the Year Awards. If you are seeking to recognise a volunteer who has passed away, please contact your local council or Auspire for other recognition opportunities: https://auspire.org.au/.
9. Sponsor Conflict of Interest
If you are an employee of the award category sponsor, you are not eligible to enter that specific category.
10. References
Please ensure referees are aware they will be contacted if your nominee becomes a finalist. View each category for referee restrictions.
11. Media
Information submitted within nomination forms (including responses, photos, and testimonials) will be used for promotion at the discretion of Volunteering WA, and could be used for press releases, website, social media, and the like.
Judging
- All nominations which meet the entry criteria will be reviewed by the judging panel.
- Nominations which are deemed by the awards organisers and/or judging panel to have insufficient information or evidence, or do not meet the eligibility criteria may not be considered.
- The judges’ decision will be final with no correspondence being entered into.
- Winners will be chosen based on merit, rather than the number of nominations received for that person.
- Referees will be contacted once finalists are selected to confirm their support of the nomination and that the details are accurate.
Tickets, Bookings and the Awards Event
Finalists
- Finalists will be contacted with event details and are expected to attend the Awards gala dinner on Thursday May 14 2026.
- Each finalist will be gifted two (2) complimentary tickets to attend the gala dinner, and additional tickets can be purchased online.
- a) Finalists and guests are responsible for their own travel and accommodation to attend the Awards (except for those regional attendees who were successful in their application for Lotterywest funding).
Confirmations, Cancellations, Refunds & Transfers
- Confirmation of attendance will only be sent upon receipt of the completed registration form and/or payment.
- Cancellations must be in writing.
- Cancellations within 14 days of the event incur a 50% cancellation fee.
- Refunds are not available within 7 days of the event.
- All registrations are fully transferable to other guests; however, we cannot guarantee dietary requirements will be met if within 10 days of the event.
Event Program
Volunteering WA reserves the right to alter the program, change event components or substitute services without notice.
Media and Promotion
- Please be aware that professional photos will be taken throughout the night to celebrate the evening and our nominees.
- Information submitted within nomination forms (including responses, photos and testimonials) will be used for promotion at the discretion of Volunteering WA, and could be used for press releases, website, social media and the like.
- Please note that by attending the awards you give your consent for any photographic and or video images(s) that you might be in to be shared on social media for your viewing, and to be used by Volunteering WA and any subsidiary and/or associated organisation thereof for promotional marketing purposes.
