WA Volunteer of the Year Awards

The WA Volunteer of the Year Awards 2024 recognise and celebrate the outstanding contribution of Western Australian volunteers, volunteer involving organisations, corporate volunteering programs, and volunteer managers at work within our community.

The WA Volunteer of the Year Awards are presented by Volunteering WA with the awards ceremony held during National Volunteer Week (20-26 May).

Nominations close 5:00pm Friday 8 March 2024

  • Remember to answer the questions and provide as much relevant information as possible - the judges can only make their decision based on the information you provide and how it relates to the philosophy of the respective award category.
  • Provide the required references - make sure to let them know they might be contacted.
  • Attach a high-resolution photo of your nominee. If your nominee is announced as a finalist this photo will be displayed on the large screen at the Awards Gala Dinner.
  • Please ensure you complete and submit your online nomination form(s) by 5:00pm Friday 8 March 2024 .
  • Ensure you have provided contact details for yourself, your nominee, and the referees.
  • Remember: Each category has its own separate nomination form.  

Judging panels will meet throughout March to assess nominations and select the finalists and winners.

Finalists announced – end of March

Finalists will be announced at the end of March once judging panels have concluded. Finalists will be contacted with the exciting news and information about their complimentary tickets to attend the awards ceremony in May. Further tickets can be purchased through the WA Volunteer of the Year Awards website.

GALA DINNER: WA Volunteer of the Year Awards – Thursday 23 May 2024

Congratulations to all nominees, finalists and winners! More than 350 volunteers, supporters and organisations will join us at The Westin Perth as we recognise the individual and collective achievements of the volunteering sector. Winners will be announced at the event.

Entry Guidelines

  • Past winners of individual award categories are not eligible to nominate again within five years.
  • Past recipients of the organisation award categories, must wait 3 years before nominating again (i.e., for the 2024 Awards, this means past Excellence in Corporate Volunteering and Community Volunteer Organisation of the Year winners from 2021 onwards cannot renominate).
  • Please submit your online nomination form (and any requested attachments) by 5:00pm Friday 8 March 2024. Late submissions will not be counted without prior approval
  • Please keep your nomination examples to the past 12-month period (except for the Lifetime Volunteer Category which covers 20+years).
  • All nominees must be residents of (or operate in) Western Australia.
  • Nominations will not be accepted without contact details for the nominator, nominee and referees.
  • References: Please ensure referees are aware they may be contacted if your nominee becomes a finalist. Referees cannot be a relative of the nominee. Referees for the organisation categories can be employees.
  • You may nominate the same individual/organisation for multiple categories however you must complete a separate nomination for each category.
  • You may nominate multiple individuals/organisations for the same category; however, each nominee requires a separate form.
  • Finalists are expected to attend the WA Volunteer of the Year Awards ceremony on Thursday 23 May 2024, where the winners for each category will be announced.

Terms and Conditions

By participating in the WA Volunteer of the Year Awards you agree to the following terms and conditions:

Nominations

  1. All nomination forms and supporting documents must be received by 5pm Friday 8 March 2024.
  2. Nominees can self-nominate or be nominated by another party.
  3. All nominees must be residents of, or operate in, Western Australia.
  4. Nominations will not be accepted without contact details for the nominator, nominee, and referees.
  5. If you are an employee of the award category sponsor, you are not eligible to enter that specific category.
  6. You may nominate the same individual/organisation for multiple categories however you must complete a separate nomination for each category.
  7. You may nominate multiple individuals/organisations for the same category; however, each nominee requires a separate form.
  8. Please keep your nomination examples to the past 12-month period (except for the Lifetime Volunteer Category which covers 20+ years).
  9. Information submitted within nomination forms (including responses, photos, and testimonials) will be used for promotion at the discretion of Volunteering WA, and could be used for press releases, website, social media and the like.
    Volunteering WA has the authority to extend the nomination deadline where appropriate.
  10. If the nominee is under 18 years, permission must be sought from a parent or guardian before submitting a nomination.
  11. References: Please ensure referees are aware they may be contacted if your nominee becomes a finalist. Referees cannot be a relative of the nominee. Referees for the organisation categories can be employees.
  12. Nominations which are deemed by the awards organisers and/or judging panel to have insufficient information or evidence may not be considered.
  13. Finalists for each category will be announced once nominations have closed. The Volunteering WA team will contact finalists and share further information about attending the event.
  14. Each finalist will be gifted two (2) complimentary tickets to attend the gala dinner, and additional tickets can be purchased online.
  15. All finalists are expected to attend the Awards gala dinner on Thursday 23 May 2024.

Judging

  1. All nominations will be reviewed by the judging panel.
  2. Nominations which are deemed by the awards organisers and/or judging panel to have insufficient information or evidence may not be considered.
  3. The judging panel reserves the right to reallocate nominations to different categories where appropriate.
  4. The judges’ decision will be final with no correspondence being entered into.
  5. Winners will be chosen based on merit, rather than the number of nominations received for that person.
  6. Nominees and nominators may be contacted for further clarification during the selection process.

Tickets, Bookings and the Awards Event

  1. Each finalist will be gifted two (2) complimentary tickets to attend the gala dinner, and additional tickets can be purchased online.
  2. Confirmation of attendance will only be sent upon receipt of the completed registration form and payment.
  3. Cancellations must be in writing and cancellations within 14 days of the event incur a 50% cancellation fee.
  4. Refunds are not available within 7 days of the event.
  5. All registrations are fully transferable to other guests; however, we cannot guarantee dietary requirements will be met if within 10 days of the event.
  6. Nominees and guests are responsible for their own travel and accommodation to attend the Awards (except for those regional attendees who were successful in their application for Lotterywest funding).
  7. Volunteering WA reserves the right to alter the program, change event components or substitute services without notice.


Media and promotion

Please be aware that professional photos will be taken throughout the night to celebrate the evening and our nominees.

Information submitted within nomination forms (including responses, photos and testimonials) will be used for promotion at the discretion of Volunteering WA, and could be used for press releases, website, social media and the like.

Please note that by attending the awards you give your consent for any photographic and or video images(s) that you might be in to be shared on social media for your viewing, and to be used by Volunteering WA and any subsidiary and/or associated organisation thereof for promotional marketing purposes. If you do not give media consent, please email this in writing to communications@volunteeringwa.org.au.
